MISSION HILLS — Los Angeles police officers following several robbery suspects shot and seriously wounded a man Tuesday after he pointed a gun at them, a police spokesman said.
The incident occurred at 7:53 p.m. at a gas station in the 15500 block of Devonshire Street at Blackhawk Street, according to LAPD Officer Eduardo Funes.
Funes said a Valley surveillance unit was following three robbery suspects when they pulled into the gas station.
The plainclothes officers identified themselves as police and ordered the suspects to halt, Funes said. “A man in the passenger seat of a pickup truck pointed a handgun at one of the police officers” and was shot by an officer, he said.
The man was taken to a local hospital with a wound that was not life-threatening, Funes said. All three suspects were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer.
The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division is investigating the shooting, Funes said.
