Elite Athletes Conduct Track Clinic Today

Johnny Gray, Inger Miller and Tyree Washington are among an elite group of track and field athletes who will conduct a clinic at Birmingham High at 3 p.m. today.
Gray, a four-time Olympian in the 800 meters, set the American record of 1:42.60 in that event in 1985, and Miller ranked third in the women’s 100 and sixth in the 200 in the 1998 world rankings by Track & Field News magazine.
Washington ranked fourth in the world in the men’s 400 last year and helped the U.S. set a world record of 2:54.20 in the 1,600 relay at the Goodwill Games last summer.
Jason Pyrah, a 1996 Olympian in the 1,500, and Scott Slover, third in the pole vault at the 1998 NCAA championships for UCLA, will also speak at the hour-long clinic.

BASEBALL
Ryan Hamill, a former Chaminade High catcher who is a sophomore at Nevada Las Vegas, went eight for 14 in a three-game series against UC Santa Barbara last week.
GOLF
The $10,000 Glendale Memorial Shootout, a match-play competition featuring seven LPGA golfers, was rained out Tuesday at Oakmont Country Club in Glendale and will not be rescheduled.
The two-day Pro-Am tournament is scheduled to begin today.
