Another Shutout Puts Servite in Semifinals

James Towers made seven saves for his 14th shutout and Matt Kubota tied a school record for single-season assists as Servite defeated Yucca Valley, 4-0, in a Division IV boys’ soccer quarterfinal game Thursday at Yucca Valley.
Kubota (two assists) matched John Purser’s 1978 record of 14. Mike Irwin, Matt Terry, Brent Fielder and Jeff Murphy scored for Servite (23-5-3), which led, 1-0, at the half. The Friars, who have not allowed a goal in the playoffs, advanced to play San Marino.
In Division I:
Long Beach Millikan 2, Saddleback 0--Matthew Upton and Alfredo Villalobos got shots passed Noe Arreola in Millikan’s victory. Saddleback finished 26-3.
In Division II:
Woodbridge 2, Oxnard Rio Mesa 0--Mark Oehlman and Jason Macrae scored goals and senior Doug Allan made four saves for his 65th career shutout. Woodbridge (23-1-2) advanced to play Santa Barbara.
Santa Barbara 1, Huntington Beach 0--Huntington Beach closed the season at 17-8-2.
In Division V:
Cerritos Valley Christian 5, St. Margaret’s 4 (2 OT)--Senior Jeramiah Gellagos scored three goals for St. Margaret’s.
Orange Lutheran 3, San Pedro Mary Star 0--Derek Bartlett scored two goals, Sean Silva had one and Jason Talmage made three saves for the host Lancers’ 13th shutout. Orange Lutheran (21-4-4) advanced to play Pasadena Poly.
