University Finishes 1-Under Par

Chris Kugel shot two-under-par 34 at Strawberry Farms to help University shoot one-under as a team in a 179-210 victory over Corona del Mar in a nonleague golf match Monday.
Kugel had two birdies and seven pars for the Trojans (3-1). University junior Brian Sinay also made two birdies and shot 35 and senior Ron Won, who has committed to Stanford, shot 36.
In another nonleague match:
Western 191, Rancho Alamitos 218--Braxton Cates made seven pars and two bogeys for a two-over 37 for Western (3-1) as the team finished in a driving rain storm at Dad Miller.
Troy Pinkerton had a chip-in birdie from the fringe on the par-four fourth and finished at 38 also for Western.
In nonleague baseball:
Aliso Niguel 15, Phoenix South Mountain 1 (5 innings, mercy rule)--Senior Nathan Robertson hit two home runs, giving him three this season, and had five runs batted in for visiting Aliso Niguel (3-3).
Robert Deven hit two doubles and pitched two innings to earn the victory and Courtney Hemerick also hit a home run for the Wolverines.
In nonleague boys’ volleyball:
Kennedy 3, La Quinta 2--Rupesh Bhakata had 20 kills to help host Kennedy (3-0) to a 15-1, 15-13, 8-15, 14-16, 15-7 victory.
Ming Li had 13 kills and Milos Obradovic had 12 kills for La Quinta (2-3).
Santa Ana 3, Rancho Alamitos 2--Mike Mendoza had 22 kills to help visiting Santa Ana (4-0) win, 12-15, 15-3, 11-15, 15-3, 15-6.
Jason Gilbert had nine kills for host Rancho Alamitos (5-1).
Valencia 3, La Mirada 0--Brian Bartczak had 10 kills for host Valencia (5-0), which won, 15-6, 15-8, 15-6.
