Leno, Letterman and the Late-Night Laughs
- Share via
It’s easy to figure out why “The Tonight Show” is doing well and “Late Night” is not (“Dave, Jay Keep at Their Pillow Fight,” by Brian Lowry, March 19).
Jay Leno is funny and David Letterman is not. Letterman is a much better interviewer, but it is the monologues that draw people into the shows, and Leno’s take on current events is astute, clever and, well, funny. Letterman’s take is often on himself. Zzzzzzz.

Lowry forgot one reason to watch “The Tonight Show”: Without Leno’s monologue, how would we ever know that Paula Jones has a big nose, Linda Tripp is fat, Janet Reno is ugly and Joan Collins is old?
