Now that plans for a police department merger with Cypress have been scrapped by the City Council, recruiting efforts for a new police chief will begin. Interim Police Chief Mike McCrary has been filling in since March of this year and is willing to stay on until a new chief is hired. Recently, the City Council approved a resolution that allows McCrary to stay on contract and does not affect his retirement benefits. City Manager Robert Dominguez said he expects that the city will hire a full-time chief within the next eight months.
