Famed Italian mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli will sing a Vivaldi program Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Irvine Barclay Theatre.
The recital, sponsored by the Philharmonic Society of Orange County, is an exclusive Southern California appearance and one of only three U.S. stops Bartoli will make on her tour. (She will sing in Berkeley on Jan. 9. Details of the third performance will be announced later.)
The society also sponsored her Southern California debut in 1995 at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa.
Bartoli and her 15-member period-instrument ensemble, Il Giardino Armonico, will perform selections from Vivaldi’s 20 surviving operas. The Venetian master composed more than 90, but only about 20 survive.
Tickets, at $250, will go on sale to Philharmonic Society members and subscribers on Wednesday. Any remaining tickets will go on sale to the general public Oct. 18.
