The City Council unanimously decided on Tuesday to approve the environmental impact report for the Imperial Highway improvement project, although a few residents raised concerns about noise and safety issues that have yet to be addressed.
The report, which is the final step in the project’s approval process before construction begins, concluded that the improvements will not cause any environmental problems.
Council members called the report imperfect, but adequate.
The residents’ concerns must be addressed, but the $35-million project must move forward because traffic is expected to continue increasing, they said.
Imperial Highway “needs to keep up and move into the 21st century,” Councilwoman Barbara Kiley said.
