Buena Park 19, Anaheim 6--Buena Park’s defense intercepted two of Anaheim quarterback Ryan Paterson’s passes, sacked him four times and recovered two fumbles as the Coyotes won a nonleague game at Glover Stadium.
Buena Park (2-3) limited the Colonists to 52 yards rushing and held them scoreless until late.
Chris Miller, who gained a game-high 100 yards in 12 carries, put Buena Park on the board with a seven-yard touchdown run with 7:31 left in the first quarter.
On Anaheim’s second play on the ensuing drive, Viet Nguyen intercepted a Paterson pass at Buena Park’s 48-yard line. Earl Parker then threw a 52-yard touchdown pass to Will Flamenco and the Coyotes led 14-0.
Ricardo Torres, who earlier missed a 43-yard field goal, redeemed himself by making one of that same length with 3:30 left in the first half.
Torres began the second half by punting to Anaheim’s nine-yard line and when the Colonists were forced to punt, the snap was high and the ball went through the end zone for a safety and a 19-0 lead.
Anaheim (1-4) moved the ball deep into Buena Park territory early in the fourth quarter but failed on a fourth down at the Coyote 16-yard line. Anaheim scored with 2:27 left in the game when Paterson threw a 16-yard pass to Juan Jimenez.
