No. 9 Mission Viejo 20, Trabuco Hills 45--Sam Marquez finished first for Trabuco Hills in 16:10 at Laguna Niguel Regional Park, but Mission Viejo took the second through seventh places to win. Christian Calvo was second in 16:18 for the Diablos (2-0).
In South Coast League girls’ cross-country:
Mission Viejo 27, Trabuco Hills 30--Mission Viejo’s Sarah Rettman remained unbeaten on the season with a victory in 19:02 on Mission Viejo’s three-mile course.
In the Sunset League:
No. 3 Esperanza 18, Fountain Valley 45--Julia Allen won in 19:32 for Fountain Valley on the three-mile course at Central Park.
In Sunset League girls’ volleyball:
No. 8 Huntington Beach 3, No. 4 Esperanza 2--Senior setter Amber McCarthy had four aces, 63 assists and two blocks to help the host Oilers (6-2, 2-0) win the 2 1/2-hour match, 15-10, 8-15, 6-15, 15-7, 15-10.
Laura St. John had 15 kills for Esperanza (7-1, 1-1).
