Christen Dawn Smith, a student at Walnut Elementary School, died Friday at her home in Newbury Park after a yearlong battle with cancer. She was 10.
She was born on Oct. 26, 1988, to Michael and April Smith in Simi Valley.
Smith played on a local American Youth Soccer Organization team and also played fast-pitch softball. She participated in a talent show where she sang and danced. Her father said that she was a normal little girl who was sweet, thoughtful and caring.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Michael; sister Amber; grandmother Roseanne Partee of the Northern California town of Ione; grandfather Gerald Partee of Germany; and grandfather Robert Smith of Simi Valley.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the family in care of Walnut Elementary School in Newbury Park.
Services are scheduled today at 11 a.m. at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo, the Rev. Lynn Scheiern officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Bros. Griffin Mortuary in Thousand Oaks.
