DANA POINT

Interstate 5 practically bursts at the seams each weekend afternoon as beach-goers head home.
But with the end of summer, a number of businesses along the coast see a dramatic difference in their daily receipts as sun worshipers pack up their folding chairs for the winter.
Jason Mackevicius, manager of Pacific Eyes and T’s near Dana Point Harbor, said that while the bulk of his customers are locals, business still can drop nearly 40% once the seasons change.
Business at the clothing store declines over a period of weeks as the tourists who stay at the harbor’s hotels begin to dwindle, Mackevicius said.
“In the summer you get tourists and people just generally walking around,” he said. “[The decline] is pretty gradual. It generally sort of teeters off.”
