City officials decided Tuesday to put the Metrolink commuter rail station project out to bid for a second time, in the hopes of garnering bids closer to the city’s budget.
The previous attempt yielded only two bids, the lowest almost $2 million more than the city’s $2.5-million budget and the other $4 million above what the city could pay.
If the Orange County Transportation Authority’s board of directors decides Monday to use an available $2.5 million surplus to help fund the project, city officials will rebid the project the following day, said Laguna Niguel Mayor Mark Goodman.
