Van Nuys Montclair Prep 27, Calvary Chapel 13--Calvary Chapel could not overcome a mistake-filled first quarter and lost at Westminster High.
Calvary Chapel quarterback Luke Garner fumbled on the third play of the game. Montclair Prep’s Justin Goss returned the ball 30 yards for a touchdown.
After Calvary Chapel came up short on a fourth-down pass play, the Mounties increased their lead to 13-0 when Jerome Dennis caught a 36-yard touchdown pass from Jason Goss. The Eagles got on the board with more than two minutes left in the half when Blake West caught a 37-yard pass from Garner. A missed extra point put the halftime score at 13-6.
After the Mounties increased the lead to 19-6 in the third quarter, Brent Concolino ran back the ensuing kickoff 85 yards for the touchdown.
Montclair Prep added a touchdown four minutes into the fourth quarter when Gary Sonkur scored on a four-yard run.
Calvary Chapel was held to 57 yards total offense in the second half. Blake West caught four passes for 102 yards.
Justin Goss had 140 rushing yards on 10 carries for the Mounties.
