Grossmont 46, Valley 33--The Monarchs (1-1) rallied from an early deficit, but could not keep pace with Grossmont (1-1) in the second half of a nonconference game at Grossmont.
Valley trailed, 20-0, in the second quarter.
But the Monarchs tied the score, 20-20, on a 25-yard field goal by Ed Cicoria with 7:19 left in the third quarter.
Cicoria, who finished with four field goals, also converted from 25, 30 and 26 yards.
Grossmont scored touchdowns on its first four possessions of the second half. Clint Womack threw two touchdown passes during the stretch and completed 13 of 28 attempts for 288 yards and four touchdowns.
Valley’s Eric Holtfreter was 28 of 51 for 263 yards and two touchdowns, but eight of his passes were dropped.
Wide receiver Jerome Riley had seven receptions for 78 yards and two touchdowns for Valley.
