Bartenders at Irvine’s public facilities may soon have to think before they drink, at least while they’re on the clock.
That was one of the concerns noted at the Irvine Community Services Commission meeting last week, at which commissioners recommended that the city clamp down on beverage servers who drink on the job.
The commission annually reviews the city’s policy governing use of Irvine’s public rooms. Recommendations are forwarded to the City Council; any policy changes will become effective Sept. 1.
Under the revisions, alcoholic beverages would be prohibited at events that are attended for the most part by teenagers and younger children. The city would be empowered to require event organizers to provide security and additional insurance if they plan to serve liquor.
