Akamine’s Shutout Paces Savanna, 11-0

Scott Akamine pitched a five-inning two-hitter Monday as Savanna defeated Orange Lutheran, 11-0, in the Anaheim Lions baseball tournament at Glover Stadium.
Akamine struck out four and walked none in the pool-play game, which was stopped after five innings due to the mercy rule. Ken Castaneda had four hits, three runs batted in and two runs and Edwardo Assad had a double, single and three RBIs for the Rebels.
Orange Lutheran’s hits were doubles by Brent Concolino and Chris Hansen. The Lancers are 5-14.
In other pool-play games:
Katella 15, Brea Olinda 3 (6, mercy)--David Alcantar drove in two runs and the Knights drew 10 walks in a pool-play game. Katella starting pitcher Rafael Lua gave up two hits and struck out five in four innings.
Kennedy 8, Reno (Nev.) 3--Shawn Benavente drove in five runs, including two-run singles in the third and fourth innings, and Steve Yaden scored four runs for Kennedy (13-7-1). Jose Alcala (3-2) gave up two runs and four hits in the first inning, but held Reno to three hits over the final six.
Long Beach Wilson 13, No. 8 Valencia 2 (5, mercy)--Hector Ambriz and Chris Jensen each had two hits for Valencia (14-5).
Western 7, Menifee Paloma Valley 1--Kyle Stanley had four hits, including a triple and two doubles, drove in two runs and scored twice for Western (11-8). Jason Zollan pitched a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts for the Pioneers.
In the Lakewood Mayfair tournament:
Magnolia 11, Inglewood 1 (6, mercy)--Jason Gallo went three for three with two RBIs and two runs for visiting Magnolia (7-13) in the quarterfinals. Starting pitcher Scott Henry (2-3) gave up two hits and no walks in five innings to pick up the victory.
In the San Pedro Mary Star of the Sea tournament:
Calvary Chapel 9, Rosemead Don Bosco 2--Freshman Ben Linn went three for three with five RBIs for Calvary Chapel (12-6). Linn hit a two-run home run in the seventh and Josh Graves had two hits, including a triple, for the Eagles. Kyle Christensen (10-2) pitched four innings to earn the victory, striking out four.
In a nonleague game:
Fairmont 9, Heritage Christian 8 (6 innings, time limit)--Mike Mount had three hits, three RBIs and three runs for the host Huskies (5-6). Phillip Waites had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs and Ben English had two hits and two runs for Fairmont Prep.
