5 Students, Teacher Die in Chechnya Fight

Five students and an instructor from Chechnya’s university in Grozny were killed in a battle that started when rebels opened fire on Russian soldiers, officials said. One Russian serviceman also was killed and four injured, said a Russian government spokesman. Several grenades fired by rebels landed on the campus, killing the students, the spokesman said. A university instructor also died. Fifteen civilians were wounded, an official in the Grozny city administration said.
