Greek Theatre

Re “Council Rescinds Greek Theatre Deal,” Jan. 27: I have been following the progression of “Greek-gate.” Besides the bungling of the City Council once again, the only issue of concern with the operation of the Greek Theatre seems to be money and looking for the highest bidder.
Does anyone besides me remember the Greek and the Doolittle when James Doolittle was the artistic director? Both venues, but especially the Greek during the summer, offered a wide array of offerings. There were Broadway musicals, plays, ballet, opera, dance, as well as pop and rock concerts. Since Nederlander has been operating the Greek, there have been only pop and rock concerts. Universal Amphitheater is already filling the need for this kind of programming year-around. It would be of enormous wealth to the cultural diversity of Los Angeles to return to more varied programming. This should be one of the primary concerns when considering who will operate the Greek.
