Rape Trial Set for Former CLU Student

A March 3 trial has been set for a former Cal Lutheran University student charged with rape.
Alejandro Castaneda, 18, is facing six felony charges for allegedly raping and sexually assaulting an 18-year-old freshman in a dormitory at the Thousand Oaks campus last fall.
Castaneda will also stand trial on a misdemeanor sexual battery charge for allegedly fondling a second female student in a dormitory hallway two weeks before the alleged rape.
During a preliminary hearing last month, both victims testified that Castaneda had forced himself on them. The victim of the alleged rape told a judge she had been drinking heavily after a campus carnival and was unable to fend off the defendant.
Castaneda has denied attacking the women.
The defendant remains held in jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
