St. Francis High has a rich boys’ soccer tradition, but not against Chaminade in the new millennium.
Ori Arabi scored a goal in the fifth minute of the first overtime and host Chaminade defeated St. Francis, 1-0, in a Mission League game Friday.
Arabi’s chip shot from 20 yards caught goalkeeper Raul Calderon off the goal line.
“I knew the goalie was out, so I lobbed it in,” Arabi said. “He was playing out the whole game.”
Chaminade (15-4-1, 8-1 in league play) set a school record for victories in a season. The Eagles have handed the Golden Knights (18-4-3, 8-2) their two league defeats.
The victory moved Chaminade into first place, a half-game ahead of Loyola and St. Francis with two games remaining.
Matt Witcher recorded his 12th shutout, seventh in league play.
