Three elementary schools in Capistrano Unified School District will advance to the state level in the 1999-2000 California Distinguished Schools competition.
Del Obispo in San Juan Capistrano, Marian Bergeson in Laguna Niguel and Oak Grove in Aliso Viejo exemplify state education standards in both their programs and performance of staff, according to the California Department of Education.
The schools are among 230 campuses statewide that will be visited in spring by state education representatives as part of the final level of competition.
The program rewards schools that demonstrate priorities set by the state superintendent of public instruction and the state board of education.
Schools are judged on academic standards, leadership, how well curriculum reflects educational research, the quality of support services offered, use of modern technology, parent participation, professional development for staff and a clean and safe campus, according to the California Department of Education.
Statewide winners will be honored at a ceremony on May 5.
