Maritime Museum Names Volunteer of Year

The Ventura County Maritime Museum awarded Tom Thompson its 1999 Volunteer of the Year honor. Thompson, a World War II veteran, joined the museum in 1994 and quickly moved into managerial roles. He served as chairman of volunteers in 1997 and 1998.
Wildlife Center Receives $2,700 in Grants
* The Point Mugu Wildlife Center announced it received two grants totaling $2,700. The grants were provided by the Malibu Kiwanis Club ($2,000) and Los Padres chapter of the Sierra Club ($700). The money will be used to purchase liability insurance and to help cover rent and expenses. Volunteers at the nonprofit center are working to establish a saltwater marine mammal rehabilitation facility in Ventura County.
