Wright Gives Katella Victory Over Tustin in Water Polo

Devon Wright’s goal 20 seconds into sudden death gave Katella a 15-14 victory over Tustin in nonleague girls’ water polo Tuesday.
Wright also tied the score with 28 seconds left in regulation, putting in a back-handed goal.
Tustin had an opportunity to win the game late in the first overtime period, but Nicole Tapia’s lunging save preserved the 14-14 tie. Katella is 10-7.
In another nonleague game:
No. 10 Corona del Mar 12, Mission Viejo 3--Danielle Carlson and Christina Hewko each scored three goals and Ellen Orbe and Lauren Guthrie each had four steals for visiting Corona del Mar (11-7).
In the Century League:
No. 2 Foothill 11, Canyon 5--Jackie Pirro had five goals and Brittany Hayes had three to lead Foothill (11-4, 1-0).
No. 3 Villa Park 13, El Modena 1--After leading 2-1 through one quarter, Villa Park pulled away. Kristyn Pulver scored five goals and Danee French four for the Spartans (12-4, 1-0).
In the Freeway League:
Sunny Hills 10, La Habra 1--Sarah Sinclair scored a career-high four goals to lead Sunny Hills (9-9, 2-2).
In Century League boys’ basketball:
No. 4 Villa Park 70, Canyon 60--Matt MacGinnis had 19 points and Corey Miller had 15 points and nine assists for Villa Park (17-2, 4-0). The visiting Spartans made 27 of 31 free throws. Canyon (7-11, 2-2) took only seven free throws, making five.
In nonleague boys’ basketball:
Tarbut V’Torah 76, Southern California Christian 43--Noam Dashti had 18 points and 13 rebounds to help Tarbut V’Torah (14-1) to its 12th consecutive victory.
In Olympic League boys’ soccer:
Whittier Christian 4, Brethren Christian 1--Sam Paulescu scored two first-half goals and had a second-half assist for Whittier Christian (1-13-1, 1-3).
In the Sea View League:
Laguna Hills 3, Irvine 1--Vanessa Rocha scored a first-half goal on a free kick and Lindsay Balzhiser scored the go-ahead goal in the second half. Michelle Manzo also scored for Laguna Hills (9-5-3, 1-2-1).
In Garden Grove League wrestling:
Santiago 35, Rancho Alamitos 34--Heavyweight Joe Bonilla’s pin gave Santiago (10-6, 3-0) the victory. Santiago’s Bryan Thomas (171), Alex Barba (189) and Gabe Hinojoza (215) won their matches.
