Collins Scores 26 in Santa Margarita’s Victory

Larry Collins scored 26 points and grabbed a key rebound in the final minute to help Santa Margarita, ranked eighth in Orange county, defeat Estancia, 55-49, in a nonleague boys’ basketball game Saturday at Estancia.
With 39 seconds remaining, Santa Margarita (17-4) led, 51-49. Collins missed a three-pointer but grabbed his own rebound, forcing Estancia to foul.
Estancia (12-10) had led, 49-47, with 2 minutes 11 seconds to play after Jon Cantrell, who had 22 points, made his fifth three-pointer.
But Santa Margarita’s R.J. Saki scored two transition baskets to give his team the lead.
In another nonleague game:
La Puente Bishop Amat 61, Servite 55--Eddie Rodriguez scored 26 points for Bishop Amat (13-8), ranked seventh in Southern Section Division II-A. Rodel Lizan scored 13 points for eighth-ranked Servite (13-8).
In nonleague girls’ basketball:
No. 6 Esperanza 52, No. 9 Rosary 50--Ashley Van Kurin made two free throws with 40 seconds remaining to secure Coach Marc Hill’s 300th victory at Esperanza (15-5). Kristin Peters led the Aztecs with 19 points. Jenise Karcher scored 12 points for host Rosary (16-7).
Aliso Niguel 59, Magnolia 50--Freshman Julia Pederson scored 21 points for Aliso Niguel (12-8).
Riverside North 58, Mater Dei 45--Riverside North, ranked first in Division I-A, outscored seventh-ranked Mater Dei in the second quarter, 20-9, to take control. Kristian Kirkpatrick and Kristin Hayman both scored 12 points for the Monarchs (17-4).
Westminster 81, Costa Mesa 45--Holly Armstrong had 22 points, including four three-pointers, for Westminster (15-5).
In the NCSI girls’ water polo tournament final:
Santa Ana Valley 3, Saddleback 2--Goalie Blanca Chavez had three saves, allowing only one goal through three quarters, for the Falcons (10-7).
In the El Dorado TYR Cup girls’ water polo tournament:
Los Alamitos 7, Mission Viejo 4--Susie Lewis scored four goals for Los Alamitos (9-6) in the consolation final.
At the San Clemente Rotary wrestling meet:
Irvine wins--Irvine’s Robert Anatenore (127 pounds) and Wyatt Howard (162) won their weight classes for Irvine.
