The body of a 30-year-old man who was presumed drowned in late May was found Thursday floating in Lake Piru, a sheriff’s sergeant said.
Vy Xuan Dang of Garden Grove disappeared while swimming with his family near a dam at the lake during the Memorial Day Weekend.
A park ranger found Dang about 1 p.m. some 500 yards from where he was last seen swimming May 27.
It is not unusual for a victim to resurface weeks or months after a drowning, said Ventura County Sheriff’s Sgt. Larry Meyers.
“It is common to sink to the bottom initially but as time goes on gasses form within the body and the body will float,” he said.
More than a dozen deputies and volunteers searched the lake and shoreline while a team of divers conducted an underwater search at the time of Dang’s disappearance.
County coroner’s officials said an autopsy was planned today. Dang was single and a student at a Los Angeles college, authorities said.
