MEXICO CITY — A lawyer for an accused drug trafficker has been found slain, his hands and feet tied and a plastic bag covering his head, the city attorney general’s office said Friday.
Gustavo Galvez Reyes, 32, had been trying to win the release of Jesus Labra Aviles, a Tijuana businessman suspected of being a leading figure in one of Mexico’s top narcotics operations.
The lawyer’s body was found Wednesday in southern Mexico City. He had been badly beaten before being suffocated, according to the coroner’s office.
Officials said they did not know of a motive for the slaying.
Labra is suspected of being a top figure in the Tijuana drug gang led by the Arellano Felix brothers--his nephews--that is considered one of the largest and most violent drug organizations in Mexico.
