Victory Puts Woodbridge in Playoffs

Melissa Hafner hit a two-run single in the sixth inning as Woodbridge defeated Irvine, 6-2, in a third-place Sea View League playoff game Friday at Woodbridge.
Brittany Crouch (18-9) struck out three and allowed eight hits for the Warriors (19-12, 4-4), who clinched an automatic Southern Section playoff berth.
Irvine won an earlier game, 3-1, tying the teams for third place in league and forcing the playoff. In that game, Erica Peterson had the game-winning RBI in the ninth inning for Irvine (16-10, 4-4).
In Golden West League softball:
Ocean View 5, Tustin 1--Jessica Carney hit a two-run double, part of a five-run sixth inning for host Ocean View (8-17, 5-7).
Ocean View, which is tied for third with Westminster, will get the automatic playoff berth after defeating the Lions twice this season. Tustin is 13-11-1, 10-2.
Santa Ana 7, Westminster 6--Michelle Paz hit a grand slam in the top of the seventh to put Santa Ana ahead, 7-1. Westminster (7-13, 5-7) rallied with five runs in the bottom of the inning.
Nereida Bernal (4-6), who had four hits, went 6 2/3 innings to pick up the victory for Santa Ana (11-11, 8-4).
In the Sunset League:
Los Alamitos wins coin flip--Los Alamitos will be the league’s first-place representative for the Southern Section Division I playoffs. Fountain Valley goes in as the third-place team. Marina will be a first-place representative in Division II.
In Empire League baseball:
Loara 11, Century 4--David Ortiz hit two home runs for visiting Loara (14-10-1, 8-6-1), which clinched third place and an automatic playoff berth.
In the Southern Section Division I boys’ tennis playoffs:
Fountain Valley 14, Saddleback 4--John Vu won, 7-5, 6-2, 6-1, and David Nguyen and Larry Tran won in doubles, 6-1, 6-2, 6-3, for host Fountain Valley (8-11) in the wild-card match. The Barons will play Capistrano Valley in the first round on Tuesday.
In a Division II match:
San Clemente 17, Montebello 1--Brian Manning, Pete Acves and Alex Kerhaulas won their singles matches, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for San Clemente (11-6). The Triton doubles team of Mike Dussinger and Landon Yaple also swept without losing a game.
