Opponents Ask Why Haider Visited Libya

Opposition parties called for the government to explain what far-right leader Joerg Haider was doing visiting Moammar Kadafi in the Libyan capital, Tripoli. Haider, who resigned recently as Freedom Party leader but still sits on the center-right government’s policy-making coalition committee, visited Kadafi on May 9, two magazines are reporting. Profil and Format said Haider, who gained international notoriety with remarks that seemed to play down Nazi crimes, was seen leaving the Libyan leader’s tent by a U.S. journalist. Haider was accompanied by a director of an Austrian bank during the trip, the magazines said.
