Former Georgetown coach John Thompson has emerged as a candidate for the Clippers’ coaching vacancy, team officials confirmed Tuesday.
Less than 24 hours after telling interim Coach Jim Todd that he was not a candidate, Elgin Baylor, vice president of basketball operations, met with Thompson to talk about becoming the Clippers’ ninth coach since 1990.
Thompson, who resigned after coaching at Georgetown for 26 1/2 years on Jan. 8, 1999, was in the Los Angeles area to broadcast the Laker-Portland game on Monday night.
“The Clippers conducted an exploratory meeting with John Thompson,” said Joe Safety, vice president of communications. “No other details of the meeting will be made available.”
