Boys
Eric Posthumus
SCHOOL: Hart
YEAR: Junior
SPORT: Baseball
SEASON AT A GLANCE: The right-hander helped the Indians (23-5) fill the void of ace Jamie Shields, who was injured for the first half of the season. Posthumus finished the regular season 7-0 with a 1.84 earned-run average.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Posthumus (8-0) threw a one-hitter in a 12-0 victory over Lancaster on Friday in the first round of the Southern Section Division II playoffs. He struck out 10 and walked one. It was his third complete game of the season.
Girls
Kathryn Nevard
SCHOOL: Camarillo
YEAR: Senior
SPORT: Softball
SEASON AT A GLANCE: The Illinois-bound right-hander is one of Camarillo’s all-time best and she’s finishing up her four-year career in grand fashion. Nevard has struck out 286 in 160 innings, allowed only 46 hits and walked nine. She’s 15-6 with an 0.18 earned-run average.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Camarillo and Nevard will advance only as far in the Division I playoffs as its subpar offense will allow. In a first-round game Friday, Nevard took care of Alhambra almost single-handedly by throwing a perfect game and striking out 18 in the 6-0 victory.
