An Oxnard man was killed Friday morning after his Jeep went over a 20-foot embankment near Ojai.
Gerald Redmond, 34, was driving along California 33 around 8:30 a.m. when he lost control just south of Shell Road, said California Highway Patrol Officer Dave Webb.
Webb said Redmond swerved after changing lanes, sending his car over the embankment. The car rolled several times, ejecting him before bursting into flames, Webb said.
“We don’t know if the top was on the Jeep or not, but he was ejected before the fire,” Webb said.
Webb said officers were trying to determine whether Redmond was wearing a seat belt.
Redmond was taken to Ventura County Medical Center, where he died of chest injuries.
