Officer Slain; Far-Left Group Is Blamed

Two attackers shot and killed a Spanish National Police officer in front of a high school in southern Madrid in an attack blamed on the shadowy far-left group GRAPO. Francisco Sanz Morales, 28, was shot in the head as he left a school in the Carabanchel neighborhood after a routine visit to the school principal, a police spokeswoman said. The agent died a little more than an hour after the shooting. The Interior Ministry said it had identified the alleged attackers as members of the leftist underground group.
