Elizabeth Ivanoff Holborn, 78, a highly regarded teacher of the violin. Born Elizabeth Ivanoff in Ann Arbor, Mich., Holborn earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in violin at the University of Michigan, where she studied with Feri Roth and Gilbert Ross. After graduation, she taught at Carleton College in Northfield, Minn. She moved to California in 1960 with her husband, the Rev. Hans L. Holborn, and settled in Redondo Beach. She served as assistant concertmaster for the Beach Cities Symphony and had been the concertmaster for the Peninsula Symphony from its inception in 1969. After relocating to Whittier, Holborn taught violin at a number of Southern California institutions, including Whittier College, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Long Beach and UC Irvine. A member of the Music Teachers Assn. of California, Holborn was also an officer in the American String Teachers Assn. On Nov. 5 of pancreatic cancer in Whittier.
