David Frisina

* It was with a great sense of loss that I read of the death of David Frisina (obituary, Nov. 15), longtime concertmaster of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

When I was a child, my father took me to concerts at the new Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. I remember vividly how elegantly Frisina led the violins. Later, as a young arranger and musical director for Neil Diamond, I had the good fortune to work personally with him. On one occasion I asked Frisina’s opinion on how to conduct a certain difficult passage. He told me, “You felt the notes when you wrote them down. Now just feel the notes with your hands.” Such good advice from such a good man! I miss him already.
