2. MIAMI (9-1) defeated Syracuse, 26-0. A stifling performance by the Hurricane defense, as the Orangemen suffered their first shutout at home since 1993. Next: Boston College, Saturday
3. FLORIDA STATE (11-1) defeated No. 4 Florida, 30-7. Now the politicking really starts in Florida. Seminoles’ impressive victory could move them ahead of Miami in the BCS rankings. Next: TBA
4. FLORIDA (9-2) lost to No. 3 Florida State, 30-7. A humbling defeat dropped Coach Steve Spurrier’s record to 0-5-1 at Doak Campbell Stadium. Next: Auburn in SEC title game, at Atlanta, Dec. 2
5. OREGON (9-2) lost to No. 8 Oregon State, 23-13. Ducks’ eight-game winning streak and hopes of a return trip to Rose Bowl were dashed by their in-state rivals. Next: TBA
6. WASHINGTON (10-1) defeated Washington State, 51-3. The 48-point margin was the largest for either team in the 93-game series and the worst home loss for the Cougars since 1955. Next: TBA

10. NEBRASKA (8-2) did not play. The stakes were high after the Cornhuskers won their first seven games, but now they have lost two of their last three. Next: Colorado, Friday
11. NOTRE DAME (8-2) defeated Rutgers, 45-17. Irish have won six in a row and improved to 12-0 in games in New Jersey. Their losses have come by a combined nine points. Next: at USC, Saturday
12. OHIO STATE (8-3) lost to No. 19 Michigan, 38-26. John Cooper’s record as Buckeye coach fell to 2-10-1 against the Wolverines and cost his team a share of the Big Ten title. Next: TBA
13. MISSISSIPPI STATE (7-3) lost to Arkansas, 17-10 (OT). Bulldogs had the nation’s third-longest home winning streak, but it ended at 16 games at hands of the Razorbacks. Next: Mississippi, Thursday

23. NORTHWESTERN (8-3) defeated Illinois, 61-23. The 61 points were the most the Wildcats have scored since a 62-0 thumping of an overmatched DePauw in 1944. Next: TBA
