Irish to Start Freshman Quarterback
Notre Dame Coach Bob Davie said Wednesday that Matt LoVecchio will start Saturday against Stanford, making him only the fourth Irish quarterback since 1952 to start as a freshman without a redshirt season.
The last three freshman quarterbacks for the Irish--Blair Kiel in 1980, Steve Beuerlein in 1983 and Kent Graham in 1987 (before transferring to Ohio State)--all won their first starts.

Brigham Young quarterback Bret Engemann will miss the rest of the season after surgery for a dislocated right shoulder. . . . Florida quarterback Jesse Palmer is doubtful for Saturday’s game against Louisiana State because of a sprained right ankle.
