Seventh-ranked Servite should give No. 1 Mater Dei its toughest test in the Serra League, but history heavily favors the Monarchs, who have an 11-game unbeaten streak in the series. Servite hasn’t beaten Mater Dei since 1988, though the teams played to a scoreless tie in 1992. The onus will be on the Friar defensive line, which must put pressure on Monarch quarterback Matt Leinart, who has completed a county-best 115 passes for 1,663 yards. Servite running back Lamar Mason and quarterback Adam Ernst will have to pile up yardage for the Friars to keep this one close.
