Lucent Expanding

Lucent Technologies Inc. said it will spend $65 million to build new plants and expand existing ones in Pennsylvania, Texas and Mexico, creating 750 jobs in the next three years. Lucent’s Microelectronics Group will add a $28-million plant at its Optoelectronics Center in Breinigsville, Pa., where it expects to add about 400 jobs. It also will convert some office space and create 100 manufacturing jobs in Reading, Pa., and build an 80,000-square-foot plant in Mexico. A 16,000-square-foot expansion has been completed in Dallas, where 20 people have been added. Lucent shares fell $1.50 to $20.13 on the NYSE.
