Teen Robbers Charged in Death of Prosecutor

Four teenagers, ages 16 to 18, were charged with killing a federal prosecutor during a robbery attempt.
Michael Messer, 49, of Chicago was walking with another prosecutor near the University of South Carolina on Monday night when robbers demanded they lie on the ground, said Columbia police spokesman Rob Schaller. Police said the lawyers fled and the robbers opened fire.
Messer was shot in the back and died in a hospital.
Richard Gillum Ferguson, 52, of Naperville, Ill., near Chicago, was treated for a gunshot wound to the arm and released.
