A 17-year-old Sylmar boy was arrested Sunday on suspicion of raping a 42-year-old woman at knifepoint, police said.
The attack occurred between midnight and 1 a.m. Sunday in the 1100 block of 2nd Street, said San Fernando Police Sgt. Robert Jacobs.
The teenager, who was not identified because of his age, apparently entered the woman’s apartment through an unlocked window, Jacobs said. The knife used to threaten the woman may have come from her kitchen and was left at the scene, Jacobs added.
The woman, who had been sleeping and was alone in the apartment, fought back and injured the attacker, Jacobs said.
The suspect fled, but was arrested about 10:30 a.m. near a relative’s house in Sylmar, Jacobs said. He was arrested on suspicion of felony sexual assault, burglary and assault with a deadly weapon.
The boy had abrasions and other injuries consistent with the victim’s description of the attack, Jacobs said.
