Not All Taxpayers Say Hooray for the N
Taxpayers have been trashed over and over, and the latest has to be the stupid changing of signs in Studio City (“Dona” streets). It’s bad enough that one person has to gloat in misplaced cultural pride, but to find a council member to go along with this lunacy is beyond everything logical. Make them pay for the material and labor for the change--not the taxpayer!

Three cheers for the restoration of the tilde to Los Angeles signs (Aug. 21). For the sight of that pretty squiggle. (It is the most elegant and artistic accent in the Western languages.) And three cheers for the sonorous, sexy sound of the N.
We are so lucky in Southern California to hear and see a wealth of languages. And it is wealth. It is vibrancy to have so many faces, body types, sounds, aromas of cooking, ways of living, dressing and worshiping, all enriching this dry, sunny land. Lucky us!
