Tanker Truck Spills 2,200 Gallons of Gas

A tanker truck traveling north on the Antelope Valley Freeway ruptured Tuesday, spilling 2,200 gallons of gasoline and closing part of the freeway’s northbound lanes for much of the day, California Highway Patrol officials said.
The spill occurred at 11:15 a.m. just north of Angeles Forest Highway, sending 500 gallons of gas into a storm drain, a spokeswoman said.
There was a brief threat of fire when the truck hit a guardrail and sent sparks flying. No other vehicles were involved, the CHP said.
The Coast Guard and other agencies are monitoring the spill for possible effects on the coast.
