Raging Waters amusement park was accused of negligence Tuesday in a lawsuit filed on behalf of a 17-year-old Paramount girl paralyzed when her float tube collided with a man at the park’s “Raging Rivers” ride.
Rocio Estrada, a senior at Paramount High School, suffered a broken neck in the accident Aug. 17 at the park in San Dimas, said her attorney, James Fox.
Fox said Rocio’s uncle lost control of his tube and it was swept away in the current. Despite signs warning him not to do so, the uncle began walking down a spillway to retrieve the tube, the lawyer said.
The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, said the current swept Rocio, in her tube, “down the spillway, sliding into her uncle’s legs, causing him to fall on top of her, causing a broken neck and a spinal cord injury.”
Officials at Raging Waters were not immediately available for comment on the lawsuit.
Rocio is undergoing treatment at the Rancho Los Amigos rehabilitation center in Downey.
The lawsuit said the Raging Rivers ride was “unreasonably dangerous and negligently operated.” The ride has been shut down since the accident, Fox said.
