Department Head Quits to Protest Hiring Freeze

From Times Wire Reports

The man who heads the Building Department said he is quitting because the city won’t hire enough people for his department to work.

Bob Berna, an 11-year city employee and chief building official for the last two, issued a letter Monday criticizing a hiring freeze imposed by City Manager Fred Stouder.

Berna said he’s covering four jobs himself, even though the department generates enough revenue to fill some of the frozen positions.
