More Gift Trouble for the Clintons
Bill and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) said they will return any gifts they took from the White House if they weren’t meant for them personally.
The White House curator’s office is working with the Clintons to figure out the intentions of the people who donated the gifts, said President Bush’s spokesman, Ari Fleischer. The Washington Post quoted two donors as saying their gifts were intended for the White House, not the Clintons.
The Clintons took $190,000 in gifts with them and later, after criticism, offered to pay $86,000 for about half the gifts.
