A 16-year-old who did not return home after a rave party Saturday was found safe in Nevada early Wednesday, authorities said.
Kelly Ann Brooks, a sophomore at Capistrano Valley High School, was at the home of the grandmother of someone she met at the rave party in San Bernardino, police said.
Her parents chartered a jet to Las Vegas and will drive home with their daughter, said Jim Amormino, spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
The teen told her parents she was attending an overnight church function and left about 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Instead, she went to the party with a 17-year-old Irvine boy she recently met on the Internet. The boy left the party and when he returned was unable to find Brooks, he told police. Her parents reported her missing Sunday.
A tip from one of the organizers of the rave party led police to the home in Las Vegas. No charges will be filed, Amormino said, because the girl “went on her own free will.”
