More than 100 firefighters battled an early morning blaze Wednesday that caused about $2.2 million in damage at the Felix Chevrolet dealership, police said.
The dealership near downtown is well known for its Felix the Cat mascot that has been a landmark in Exposition Park since 1921.
The blaze was reported at 2:11 a.m. when a Los Angeles Police Department officer saw smoke and called firefighters, said Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
It took about 120 firefighters 90 minutes to extinguish the blaze, which damaged the parts and service department, Humphrey said.
Firefighters saved the dealership’s offices and showroom, Humphrey said. No one was injured, and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
