* Last week: South Africa’s Retief Goosen redeemed himself in the U.S. Open, beating Mark Brooks, 70-72, in a Monday playoff. On Sunday, Goosen three-putted from 12 feet on the final hole of regulation to fall into a tie with Brooks at four under. Tiger Woods tied for 12th, seven strokes behind Goosen and Brooks.

* Notes: Woods is making his third appearance in the tournament. He missed the cut as an 18-year-old amateur in 1994 and tied for 43rd in 1997. . . .
