Alaska’s Snowmobiling Death Toll Rises to 27

ANCHORAGE — Two snowmobilers died in separate accidents over the weekend, bringing Alaska’s snowmobiling death toll this winter to 27, the Alaska State Troopers said Monday.
Gary Frederick, 37, of Delta, Alaska, was one of two snowmobilers buried by a slide that cut loose Sunday near Summit Lake, about 180 miles south of Fairbanks. The other snowmobiler was rescued.
The second fatality was Vic Larson, 36, from Wasilla, Alaska. He died after falling off a cliff near Chitina Pass, 90 miles northeast of Anchorage.
Larson died of his injuries about 5 1/2 hours after the accident.
Last winter 24 snowmobiling deaths were reported in the state.
